If you've already bought a reed diffuser from a retailer, you could use this, or a glass canning jar or an old jelly/jam pot. If you like yours a little weaker/stronger, feel free to tweak the formula. When making a mix of essential oils, use only 3 to 4 oils.

Learning how to make a reed diffuser is actually a lot simpler than you think. Spread out the reeds to as to make room for air to flow easily. This will help in spreading the smell in a proper way. You can decorate your reed diffuser with ribbons or dried flowers. You can choose anything that complements the ambience of your home.
Do you need a carrier oil for reed diffuser?
Grapeseed oil is light and non-greasy, so it won’t clog pores. It is also high in vitamin E, which is great for the skin. I have read that you could use safflower oil, grape seed oil or sweet almond oil. Many of them have chemicals that cats can’t process, and they accumulate in the kitties and can lead to serious health issues. In case aromatherapy is your thing, you're going to love how easy it is to make your very own essential oil diffuser...
I’ve also read that you might be able to use witch hazel for this, though I haven’t tried it. Many years ago I was completely obsessed with commercial air fresheners. Spray fresheners, plug-in fresheners, scented candles…you name it.
What are reed diffuser sticks made from?
One of my favourite inventions are those nifty reed diffusers – you know those little jars of scented oils with all the sticks popping out of them? Natural reed diffusers made with essential oils tick all the sensory-pleasing boxes, and they will save money and reduce waste in the long run too – bonus. Our reed diffuser sticks are made from high-quality, all-natural rattan reeds responsibly harvested and sourced from Indonesia.

They work all day, require no electricity, and are not a fire hazard like candles. It's best to make them yourself because the liquid in commercial reed diffusers often contains lots of artificial ingredients. Add the sweet almond oil and essential oils to your jar or vase. I used ¼ cup sweet almond oil and started with 15 drops of cedarwood oil. It wasn't enough, so I ended up adding more until the mixture was fragrant. Lavender essential oil would be great for next time.
What carrier oils mix well together?
Many base oil options have a yellow tint to them which make them not ideal for using in glass containers. I love that there are a ton of options because whenever I decide to make more diffuser oil I always have enough oil of some kind laying around to make a fresh batch of diffuser oil. Remember to be diligent about flipping the reed sticks and swirling the oil, or else the diffuser may not work as well as desired.
These may be a little more expensive but with my allergies I need a good quality oil and I find I have not problem with these. Also was wondering about Fractionated Coconut Oil…use this for massage and as a carrier oil. Can anyone recommend a mix of oils that would effective against tobacco odours.
Pick one or two of your favorite essential oils and a carrier oil, such as almond or safflower oil. Pour ¼ cup of the carrier oil into a measuring cup and add 25 to 30 drops of your essential oil. Stir the oils together with a spoon and pour them into your diffusing container. Place 4 to 8 reeds in the container and fan them out. After about 1 hour, flip the sticks over so they become completely saturated on both ends.
You can buy it in bulk and also use it as a moisturizer or even cooking. It is very light and works great in my diffuser. In a glass measuring cup, add 1/4 cup of your carrier oil or 1/3 cup distilled water.
Get creative by mixing different essential oils until you master the perfect blend. Eucalyptus oil and menthol oils are extremely good for unblocking the sinuses. Also, use peppermint, tea tree or lavender to help with your allergies. Do not put any oils inside your nostrils and do not ingest essential oils. Only ingest oils if told to by a doctor or if they are edible.
It is also VOC compliant in all 50 states when recommended fragrance loads are used. Pour ¼ cup of your carrier oil into a glass bottle. Stick a funnel into the neck of the bottle first, so that you don't spill and waste any oil. Pour 1/2 cup of fractionated coconut oil into container. It might seem overwhelming trying to pick the right diffuser base oil, but trust me it’s not. However when selecting a base oil consider its thinness and color.
There are a lot of options for your base oil, I ordered up 4 recommended options I’d seen around the internet. For my recipe I am using fractionated coconut oil. See the section below on base oils for more options and why I chose to use fractionated coconut oil in my recipe. If you are using water and alcohol as your base, you may have to replace the mixture inside the base more often than once a month.
